The Benefits of Learning With A Lady

Learning to Drive with a Female Instructor

Is it better to learn to drive with a male instructor, or a female instructor? As much as we’d love to say ‘choose women!’, the truth is that neither is officially better than the other. What it all comes down to is your personal needs, requirements, and preferences. While one female learner driver may be successful learning from a male instructor, another may learn better from a woman. There’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’, there’s no ‘right or wrong’ in this instance. This is why we’ve launched our all-female driving school, offering driving lessons for women, by women. We want all learner drivers to have a choice of instructor, so that they can get the most from their lessons and pass their test.

Sometimes, we just feel more comfortable when we’re around people of the same sex. Whether this is because of religious reasons, past experiences, or it’s something that you just can’t quite explain, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that it’s important you feel comfortable during your driving lessons. Feeling at ease is one of the best ways to ensure you’re taking in all the information delivered during your essential driver training and pre-test training lessons, helping to make you a safe driver that knows how to perform basic driving skills, advanced maneuvers, and share the road.

Here are just some of the benefits you’ll enjoy when choosing an all-female driving school:

Improved Learning

There have been many studies that have looked into the importance of teacher-student relationships and its effect on achievements, and the findings are largely conclusive - that a good teacher-student relationship can play a significant role in success. What is all comes down to, according to scientists, is what’s known as ‘attachment theory’. When we feel close to a teacher, and trust them, they become a ‘secure base’. From this base, we’re able to push ourselves more, exploring and discovering our skills and what we can do, knowing we have this security blanket to fall back on if we go too far. ‘Students who have close, positive and supportive relationships with their teachers will attain higher levels of achievement than those students with more conflict in their relationships’, according to a study published by the American Psychological Association.

Safer Driving

Both men and women can be excellent approved driving instructors, and can be capable of teaching you how to be safe on the road in a friendly and professional manner. However, none of that matters if you don’t feel 100 percent comfortable with your instructor. If you feel nervous, uncomfortable, or on-edge around a male driving instructor for whatever reason, regardless of how good a teacher they are your driving could suffer. You could even unwittingly behave dangerously on the road, putting yourself, your instructor, and other road users at risk. Studies have found that nervous drivers make more errors on the road than drivers who are feeling cool, calm, and collected, so feeling relaxed and confident really can make a huge difference when it comes to taking your driving test.

We can’t say what’s right for you, but what we can guarantee is that all of our female driving instructors are friendly, professional, constructive, supportive, and will do everything they can to calm your nerves so that you can get the most from your driving lessons. Our all-female team are registered with the Road Safety Authority as approved driving instructors, and are able to offer comprehensive pre-test training alongside the necessary EDT lessons for learner drivers. So if you feel naturally more comfortable around other women, give us a call. We’d be happy to have a chat and see if we could be the right match for you.
